A "Short" Email Chat
Hi Fritha and Gina,
Thinking of doing a little promo in NZTECHO about the “SHOW ME SHORTS” Festival - pointing out particularly that, as well as other smaller centres, there will be a season in Arrowtown that our Queenstown people can attend...
By the way - who ended up being our judging representative?
Hi Fritha and Tony,
We have the fabulous Barbara Darragh supplied to us as a judge with the kind assistance of the Techos’ Guild. We’re really excited about going to Arrowtown this year too! Slowly but surely we expand our empire (*evil laugh*).
Other exciting things this year include a record number of World Premieres, with nearly half our programme never having been seen before anywhere, and most of the films never seen before in NZ.
We have also added a Short Film Development Workshop on the Saturday during the festival, (from 9am to 1pm). These will start with two experienced filmmakers screening a film and talking about the specific development process for that film, break for a complimentary morning tea, then three emerging filmmakers will screen some recent works and discuss the pleasures and challenges of making those.
We have only just confirmed the participants for these:
- In Auckland - Roseanne Liang and Leo Woodhead, with discussion facilitated by Nik Beachman, for the development component; then new works by Garrick Rigby, Michael Humphrey and Anton Steel.
- In Wellington - Louis Sutherland and Paul Ward, with discussion facilitated by Paul Swadel, for the development component; then new works by Sally Tran, Andrew Campion and Rollo Wenlock.
Tickets to the workshops are only $10, and available for purchase from the cinemas now. A complimentary morning tea is supplied too, so it’s great value!
For more information, or to register for the workshops, visit http://showmeshorts.co.nz/workshops.php or contact Anna Jackson at anna@showmeshorts.co.nz
We hope to have lots of Techos’ Guild members attend the festival this year, and look forward to establishing a closer relationship in future years.

Hi Gina,
We hope the festival goes really well for you. I must say, I really like the printing of the programme - the bold color choice gives it a real individuality amongst all the other festivals we’re now lucky enough to have; and I also really like the fact that there are no sections where the print is difficult to read because of not enough contrast between the text and the background color, whether in hue or saturation. This affliction seems to inhabit at least one section of almost every film festival programme I’ve ever seen! Well done for bucking the trend!
Cheers, Tony F.
