Remembering Michael Eldred

Honoring a champion of independent cinema in New Zealand and Australia.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow at the passing of our beloved friend and General Manager in New Zealand, Michael Eldred.

Michael said goodbye yesterday following a brief and dignified battle with cancer.

Mike was a generous and enthusiastic champion of independent cinema in Australia and New Zealand, and a driving force behind the release of hundreds of films including such classics as BOY, OUT OF THE BLUE, THE DARK HORSE, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, ONE THOUSAND ROPES, THE ORATOR, MY YEAR WITH HELEN, CHASING GREAT, THE DEAD LANDS, and MCLAREN.

Thank you, Mike, for fighting the fight for independent film, for giving so much to the New Zealand film industry, and for being our friend.

But most of all for being a close friend and ally to so many of us who work in film production, exhibition, and distribution throughout Australia and New Zealand.

We’ll miss you with all our hearts knowing you still had so much to give.

Transmission sends all our love and support to Michael’s wife Sally, son Nicholas, his family, and friends.

We’d also like to acknowledge the incredible support Michael received from Hospice West Auckland.

Transmission will honour your work and achievements in everything we do.

Much Love,

Your Transmission Films Family
