The Big Screen Symposium

The Power of Voice highlights Kiwi films and inspires future collaboration at The Big Screen Symposium.

The Big Screen Symposium was held in Auckland on September 27th and 28th. Representing the Techos’ Guild at the event were executive officer Karla Rodgers and NZTECHO editor Carolyn Brooke, along with members Zara Hayden and Jan Sisley. A special thanks to Zara for all her help there.

The Power of Voice was the theme for the weekend, which kicked off with speeches from a panel of filmmakers, including those behind features Fantail, Housebound, The Dead Lands, The Last Saint, and The Dark Horse. Some fine Kiwi cinema indeed. Sessions throughout the weekend included workshops with overseas filmmakers, panel discussions, and film case studies. Presentations on financing, marketing, and distribution were also among the line-up.

Karla has since been in touch with the event’s organizers with the aim of achieving more crew-related content for next year. Bring on The Big Screen Symposium 2015; we sure hope to see more techos there.
