Wellington: Autumn 2024

Farewell from GT: Reflecting on a decade of filming highlights and the supportive local film community.

This will be my last Wellington diary. After a decade or more of writing these, it's time for someone new to take over. Be careful though. Writing this piece for a couple of years led directly to me being offered the job of editing the whole magazine...

And, it's nice to be going out on a good note.

There's films being shot in Miramar and Upper Hutt right now, and  reasonable little burp of TVC's moving through our systems too. As always, there's more to come at Stone Street, but the exact dates are only shared among the people who need to know.

Over December and January, I blew the dust off my Location Manager hat for the first time in ages - I really only do the scouting, but this job turned up so close to Christmas that it seemed easiest to manage it myself. Famous last words.

One of the best things about shooting in Wellington, is working with a city council office - Screen Wellington - who actually like having film crews in town and do everything they can to make it easy to shoot here. Anyone who has ever tried to get permission to shoot on a street in Auckland, will really appreciate the difference when you come here!

So, my last word as the Wellington Diary writer, is to say thanks to this great city. The crew at Screen Wellington, my tiny team at Crew Wellington - we'll still be open for business, seven days a week, 24 hours a day! - and everyone I've ever met on a crew or in a production office. You really are the best bunch of bastards in the world.

Love your work.
