Film Productions in Central Otago

From TV series to feature films, Central Otago hosts a variety of successful shoots and productions.

First Up: Sharing a learnt lesson.

Following a 15” MacBook Pro recall by Apple, anyone travelling with a MacBook Pro - even an unaffected model - should check specific airline requirements before flying, and have some sort of documentation to verify that the battery has been upgraded, or it is not an affected model.

As I write, I am hoping that my unaffected laptop is on its final leg home after having its ‘holiday’ extended by a week... And I reckon I am lucky that it has made its way home at all :)

The full range of film-fun has been rolling down south: Many thanks to MTV & Imagination TV, Sweet Tooth, Blumhouse Productions & Candy Cane NZ, Flying Fish, Zoom TV, Storyworks, Two Bearded Men, Great Southern TV, Goodoil Films, The Sweet Shop, AJ Films, Albert Park Productions & 35mmLtd, Collider & Aspiring Films, Summit Shoot, Hobie Productions, and all.

MTV & Imagination TV has been shooting Ex-On-The-Peak. Described online: "This dating reality series cast singles from shows including MTV’s Are You the One?, ABC’s The Bachelorette, and CBS’ Big Brother who wants to see if they can move on from their ex. Therefore, their former flame moves into the house with them as they attempt to find love with someone else."

For those who know the crew down here, you can imagine the fun they had on such a project!!

Blumhouse Productions and Candy Cane NZ have recently wrapped a 6-week shoot in Dunedin, Waitaki Valley, and Earnscleugh - entirely on location, largely night shoots, big special effects, and impressive art department dressing and builds. Congratulations to everyone involved - presumably this will be on-screen sometime in December.

And currently in pre-production, we have a few more longer format (longer than the traditional staple TVC for this area) productions gearing up to get out to our incredible locations. Drama, Feature & Reality TV...

TVCs are still playing an important role locally and internationally - clothing ads, car ads, big corporates, tourism giants, etc. Fast-paced jobs demanding high productivity from all crew members - just like longer format jobs but shorter!

Finally - huge kudos to film construction for their truly beautiful ‘place’ series, currently featuring Central Otago. If you have not already had the pleasure, then check out these lovely films: https://www.filmconstructionplace.com/place-film-series

And I am sure that I can speak for the whole central Otago film industry - many thanks to Jozsef, Belinda, Perry & Belinda. X

So fellows - stay safe, take a breather when you get the chance, look out for your team-members.
