Wellington's Film Industry Update
The Wellington scene has quietened down again after the madness of March, April, and May. With two major features running out of Miramar, and a small slew of TV and commercial work also going around, you couldn’t find a C-stand or a boom op’ to save yourself for a few months there. Wish it was like that every month frankly. We’re waiting on news of another feature and another good-sized feature now, but I won’t mention any names for fear of putting the curse on them. The Under 20 Soccer World Cup is in town, and around the country. So far, we haven’t heard any reports of the shenanigans of the Cricket World Cup being repeated, whereby local TV crews were being left out of the work, as the Indian TV rights owners brought their own cheap crews over. If anything similar is occurring around the Under 20 Soccer, let us know immediately. In the near future, we still need to get Avalon up and engaged with a long-running show, to underpin the Wellington industry, and smooth out the boom or bust nature of work in this town. In the meantime, the phones at Crew Wellington are still ringing with regular inquiries from Auckland, Australia, and around the world about crew availability, and visits to the website are booming. We’ll wait and see if it all translates to real work.
