Winter Preparations for Crew
As I write this, the autumn colours are giving way to the approaching winter, and the sounds of rustling leaves will soon give way to the sounds of whistling ski roof racks as they speed by.
Winter down south becomes all about managing layers, I’m sure it won’t be long before the local crew are standing in the snow up high on one of our beautiful scenic vista mountains filming a TVC etc. A tip for those of you heading down here for a shoot in the next few months, I recommend: base layer, warm layer, puffer jacket, rain coat, muck-boots (taken over from sorels!), and usual gloves, hat, scarf, ski goggles, handwarmers, toewarmers etc!
After a hectic start to autumn with back-to-back TVCs, it has been a bit quiet in the past month, with only a trickle of work coming through. But this month we have some crew in Dunedin prepping for a 6-week feature film, and the ‘flight tower of work’ informs us of inbound work on the radar. So now is a good time to stack firewood and service the fleet ie: clean the dust from the work vehicles' air cleaners after a summer of dodging flocks of sheep on dusty gravel roads.
A big shout out to KJ and the team from Film Otago Southland (FOS) for their recent industry get-together for the region. It was great to see some work mates and meet some talented young folks trying to make their way in the industry after the directors' workshop hosted by FOS.
Keep warm, keep smiling and maybe see you soon.
